Northwood Stack is an open-source orchestration library maintained by a small distributed group of four engineers who met inside a previous infrastructure company. The library has a smaller installed base than Carbide but a less hobbyist user-mix: most of the deployments we are aware of are inside operator-class teams running real agentic workloads at production scale.
Northwood does not have a commercial entity attached. The maintainers have been clear, in our coverage, that they are not interested in adding one. The library's release cadence is irregular but, by every available signal, careful. There has been no breaking change in the past nine months, and the maintainer responsible for the public changelog (Lena Asgeirs) writes release notes in the voice of someone who would be uncomfortable shipping a regression.
Operator Press has covered Northwood twice. It will appear again as the open-source layer underneath several of the companies in our active landscape coverage.
