Operator Press is a static editorial publication. The site is built once, exported as a set of static files, and served from a content host. There is no application server handling reader requests. This policy describes, in working terms, what that means for the data the site does and does not collect.
What we collect from readers
Almost nothing. The site is static. We do not run analytics scripts, tracking pixels, or fingerprinting code. We do not embed third-party advertising tags. The content host we use keeps standard web-server logs (timestamp, IP, requested URL, user agent) for operational reasons — diagnosing outages, handling abuse, capacity planning. Those logs are retained for a short rolling window and discarded.
Cookies
The site does not set first-party cookies. The newsletter signup, if you use it, opens an email client; we do not run a form service that drops a cookie. If your browser shows a cookie from this site, it is almost certainly from a cached older version; we do not set any.
localStorage
The site uses your browser's localStorage to store one thing: your reading-list bookmarks, if you choose to save any. That data lives in your browser. It is not transmitted to us. It is not transmitted to anyone. You can clear it from your browser settings at any time.
Newsletter subscriptions
The newsletter signup opens an email client. If you send the email, your email address is stored in the publication's newsletter list, and we send you the weekly digest until you unsubscribe. The list is kept by Lumenwhite Media Holdings as the operating entity. We do not sell, rent, or share the list with any third party. Unsubscribe is one click; we honor it immediately.
Search
On-site search is powered by Pagefind, a static-site search library that runs entirely in your browser. Search queries are not transmitted to the server. They are not logged. They are not associated with any identifier.
Third-party services
- Google Fonts — Source Serif 4 and IBM Plex are loaded from Google's font CDN. Google may receive standard web-server log information when your browser fetches the font. Operator Press does not receive any reader-level data from Google.
- Content host — the site is hosted on a content-delivery network for static files. The host keeps standard web-server logs; we do not run additional analytics on top of those logs.
Children
The site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone under the age of 16.
GDPR and CCPA
Under the GDPR, you have the right to know what data the publication holds about you, to receive a copy, to ask for correction, and to ask for deletion. Under the CCPA, you have equivalent rights for California residents. Send GDPR and CCPA requests to privacy at operatorpress. For practical purposes — given how little we hold — the answer to most requests is "we do not hold a record of you," and the request is closed within a week.
